Slow and Steady Wins the Race {an update}

Well, it’s been a little over 24 hours since I let you all in on what we need to make it over here at Evy’s Tree. Although it’s been a bit slow…it’s been steady, and isn’t that how you win the race?

So here’s an idea where we are at….

Please remember this is just an average number as I don’t include tees or scrap boxes….Slow and steady right? Hopefully this will keep up the next 6 days. ;)

With that said, we had a wonderful day. While I worked all day, look who was here with the kiddos today!

You may remember Ashley, the kiddos babysitter from Stockton? Ashley started babysitting Evy twice a week when I first started Evy’s Tree, and then eventually started watching both kids 4-5 days a week. Her house was like a second home to my little ones.

Jasmine was also a beloved baby sitter and Ashley’s best friend. Jasmine even worked for me in the Evy’s Tree beginnings. Both girls were in our youth group while we were youth pastors in Stockton…they started in 7 grade the year we took over and was our second to last graduation class. We LOVE these girls. They are amazing.

The kids got straight spoiled. Ashley and Jasmine came up very, very late last night and surprised the kids when they woke up in the morning. I wish I had thought to get pictures of the reunion, but I missed it. But just believe me when I say it was PRECIOUS. The girls took the kiddos out for a special lunch and ice cream and a day out on the town. I love those girls.

While the kids were out with the girls, something very sad happened….

the lambs that have been grazing in our neighborhood have done their job and there is nothing left for them to eat, so it’s time for them to move onto the next neighborhood. We have known they were leaving for a couple days, and have prepped Jake for it, as he is VERY attached to them. Unfortunately, as soon as the girls took off with the kids, Brandon looked out the window and saw them getting ready to be loaded into the truck. We ran down there to watch for a bit. It was so cool! And did I mention that a couple babies were born while they were behind our house? Well, here’s one of them, the little white one right there…

So precious. And to see them herded up to the cattle car was AMAZING.

Thankfully it took them several hours to get them into the car and Jake and Evy came home just as they were putting the last baby lamb into the car. The shepherd let them pet the baby, and although Jake was about to lose it, he handled it well, thank God!

Ok in closing {yes, I know all this is really has nothing to do with the slow and steady, but what can you do?? ha}….I have GOT to get back on the dieting bandwagon. I’ve been carrying around an extra 8 pounds or so. I saw a picture of myself this morning… O.M.W. Ummm, wow. ha. You know, my parents joined a small local gym to help my dad relieve his Parkinson’s symptoms and my mom told me that the owner of the gym walks around cheerfully shouting, “You want to look good naked, people!”. haha. I’m not sure why I find that so funny. Maybe because when I jump out of the shower I close my eyes until I am clothed so I don’t have to worry about what I look like. Seriously. Sorry if this is TMI, but am I the only person who does this?? The point here is I don’t care about looking good naked as no one is going to see me naked except my husband and obviously he likes me still. I want to look good in CLOTHES…but more importantly I want to FEEL good and right now I pretty much feel like poop. ha. oh boy. So tomorrow it’s cleansing time. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

And with that, I will end this very loongg and random post. Oh, don’t forget Save Evy’s Tree…and have you gotten your tee yet?? :)

Big hugs xoxo

For The Love of Owls Tees and Tanks

Our darling little Owl Tees are now listed. There are many color combos, I hope you love them. They really are so cute and fun to wear!

We also have the Stephanie Corfee logo tees as well {Stephanie did the owl ones too, isn’t she awesome?}….. here’s Brandon’s Auntie Rachel in hers. She got tons of compliments.

Want a tee? Head on over here. Even a little tee can help us reach our goal.

Thanks friends! xoxo

Save Evy’s Tree: The End Is Near

Well everyone, one week left. YIKES!

So, how are we doing? Honestly, not much different than when I posted last week. At that point we were about 50% of the way there. Today we are at about 53% of the way there. So not a huge amount of progress.

Let’s be honest…am I going to make 100%?? Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I can’t say positively that we will. Don’t get me wrong, I believe God can do anything, but sometimes you have to be realistic. When I first started out on the Save Evy’s Tree trail, I had a minimum and a maximum amount that I needed in order to proceed successfully with Evy’s Tree. The 100% goal, obviously, was the maximum amount. The minimum amount would allow me to cautiously proceed…I would still be able to make a manufacture order, however, a bit smaller than what I had planned, but an order just the same that would enable Evy’s Tree to continue to grow.

In order to reach this minimum I would need a small miracle in one week: 350 items would need to sold. I had mentioned before that I wasn’t going to give you a number of hoodies left to sell due to the fact that this number is just an average amount that may or may not match up with the final number I need in the end {remember…any tee shirts, scrap boxes, etc, help me reach this goal and change the amount of items need to sell}, but I have had so many people tell me it helped them to know an actual number we need to reach, so there it is. Hopefully that helps some of you. :)

So here’s where I need your help…so many of you have already jumped on board and bought something. THANK YOU!! You guys are really, truly amazing. I can’t express how thankful I am to you all. SO SO THANKFUL. I was telling my friends and family that if Evy’s Tree succeeds…it will most definitely be because of you all. I love you.

So where to go from here:

1. The shop will close on Friday, July 6 at 11 PM PST. I will close indefinitely while I figure out the financial side of Evy’s Tree and take some time to pray about the future of Evy’s Tree with my family.

2. We will take preorders until that last day. Please remember that preorders have a 4 week turnaround before they ship. That will be the same amount time even if you order on the last day.

3. #saveevystree on Instagram and twitter. I’m hoping that you all can bombard twitter and instagram with the hashtag “saveevystree” and tell your friends about our shop. If you love our items, let them know! Take pictures of your items and share them!

4. Tee Shirts. Tomorrow morning {Friday, June 29} at 10 AM PST, I will be listing the new tees. Here are a couple previews:

The tees and tanks will be $19.95 + shipping. Here’s where I have a huge favor to ask of you….if you can’t afford a hoodie, could you buy a tee? I keep thinking that it would be so awesome if we had hundreds of Evy’s Tree tees out there! We will have both adult and kids and in many colors.

5. PLEASE PLEASE PRAY. Here’s where the rubber meets the road. I am begging you, please pray for Evy’s Tree. Please. I need it and that’s the bottom line. I have to be honest: I am tired and can’t really see which way is up at the moment. I really need to know what God wants for this business. Here’s the thing, I do believe that if this business is supposed to succeed, it will. Because that is just how God rolls. But where the prayer comes in is for the human side of it: me…for direction, peace, clarity. Thank you friends. I can’t tell you how much that means to me.

I hate to sound like I am begging, but I guess I am. ugh. 350 items is a big number. Really, really big. But I have a big God. Oh and I have great customers. ha. Want to shop? Click HERE. I add a bunch of new things too, FYI… :)

I love you guys. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

PS. Klove’s encouraging word today made me cry, guess I just needed to remember who holds a cattle on a thousand hills and knows my every thought and need. “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Ps 118:24

Swimming Lessons, S’Mores and Other News

Hi everyone! Hope you all are well. I had hoped to get up some information regarding Save Evy’s Tree, but unfortunately I am still running numbers and figuring it all out. Before the whole Save Evy’s Tree thing came about, I had signed my kids up for swim lessons 4 days a week, two weeks in a row. My good friend Joy and her two littles, Thaddeus and Chloe, were coming up from the city and staying with us so Thaddeus can do the lessons as well.

I’m not going to lie when I say it’s a bit crazy over here. In between me working and these guys going nuts together

having camp outs

and swim lessons {which Jake and Thaddeus are so giving the poor teacher a run for her money}

and s’mores at night {and yes, I ate two, ugh, FATTY}

They are having SO MUCH FUN. And I love having my friend Joy here. She is the type of friend who you can go without seeing for months on end and then when you are together it’s like no time passed at all. You know how awesome those friends are??

She is also helping me not panic regarding Evy’s Tree. To be honest, sales have been really slow last week, so we haven’t jumped up too much on the percentage/goal scale. Today, as we were standing in line at Panda Express after swim lessons, I looked at her and said, “What if I don’t raise enough money and I really do have to close Evy’s Tree??” Her response? “Well, that’s ok. You will hire some cleaners to come through, deep clean your garage and put your life back on track. All will be fine.”

HA. And you know, she’s right. God knows what our future holds and it really will be ok. Today she also helped me screen print those tees you all want…

That’s just the pink and yellow, wait until you see the other colors. O.M.W. AMAZING. Seriously. Stephanie outdid herself when she made this logo. It’s seriously awesome! I got to thinking…if 250 of you bought a tee in the next week..well, things would be looking a little brighter over here! :) I hope to finish them all tomorrow and have them listed by Friday morning, so stay tuned!

Oh, and a couple other things…in case you don’t follow me on instagram {evystree}, did you see Jake’s “mohawk”? He has been asking for one for weeks. I just can’t stomach the thought of all his beautiful hair being cut off, so Brandon did this to tide him over.

Ha! He was so excited! I hoping that will be the end of that, but we’ll see. So I guess the point is, if you see the real thing in the next couple weeks, don’t be shocked.

Oh, and my house goals are coming along. The dinning room isn’t quite done, but I finished one chair slipcover and have the table painted!!! WHOOHOO!! One step at a time. :)

Ok, that’s it for now. Sorry to pack all that info into one post. A bit of an overload, I know. Hopefully I will be back tomorrow with more Save Evy’s Tree info. In case you don’t know what’s going on regarding that read here. Oh, the last day to order is July 5 and the shop will close indefinitely on July 6, just an FYI.

Big hugs everyone!! xoxo

Cravings: Daily Devotional By Carey C. Bailey

Several weeks back {maybe longer, yikes!!}, my friend Carey sent me her amazing daily devotional.

It is so cute! It has a little cupcake stand that holds the daily devotional cards with a stand on top to display each day’s card. There are 40 cards and each one is so inspiring in such a simple and quick way.

They are a great way to start your morning or even finish your day with. They would also be a great supplement to your regular daily devotions. I was also thinking that the car would be a great place to keep these cards, as I find myself needing a pick me up in the car the most {ha!}.

Day #1 {in the holder} has been a huge blessing to me. I keep going back to it, especially with all that is going on in my life at the moment.

“My help comes from the Lord Who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2

Looking for a good little {and quick!} devotional? Head on over to Carey’s site and get one! Or better yet, follow along with her blog, it’s always super encouraging as well!

Thank you Carey for the “sweet” gift!! :) So sorry it took me so long to tell you!!!

My Screen Printing Fiasco

Raise your hand if you have ever done your own screen printing before. Well, if you have, you deserve some sort of medal or something.

OH.MY.WORD. Screen printing is no joke. Seriously.

Unlike some of you amazing people, I have never done screen printing before. But I figured it couldn’t be too hard, since so many people I know and love do it and seem to love it, say it’s easy, blah, blah.

Um, it’s not. End of story.

I decided to give it a whirl after realizing that the random tees, hoodies and tanks I have laying around the studio would cost an arm and a leg to have professionally done, especially since I would need color changes. While at Snap Conference, my friend Ashley told me I should learn how to do it, so if she had the confidence in me, then I figured I could pull something together.

I went to Village Art Supplies down the street from me and bought a starter kit and a couple of screens. I knew I was going to be with my brother in law David this past week, and since I knew he knew how to do the whole emuslion bit, I asked him to help me. He sent me home with a black bag full of two emusified {not even sure that is the right word?} screens and explicit insturctions on how to burn the screens. Monday morning I eagerly followed the instructions and ended up with this great screen, that I was so excited about.

However, after trying it once, I realized that I had overexposed the screen and no ink could pull through the screen. FAB.

Mmmmkay, are you bored yet?

Anyway, Monday night I cleaned and re-emuslified {again, no idea if that is the right word} the screens and eagerly woke up this morning and starting burning the screens at 9, thinking that would give me plenty of time to print my tees, take some pictures and get them listed by 5 pm.

Whelp, that probably would have worked if I knew what I was doing. But I don’t. After attempting to burn the screens, here’s what I ended up with.

Yay!! A very plain screen! With no image! Right.

So I did what any girl would do. Panicked. Yup. And text’d David. He was so sweet to call me from work {cell phones aren’t allowed normally, thanks David!! :)} and walked me through it all. The bummer was I didn’t have any more clean screens, so had to pack up into the car and once again make a trip to Village Art Supplies to get some more screens {they were out of the cleaner, FAB right? ha}.

ANYWAY…finally we had luck and I started with the inking part.

Ok, that’s harder than the burning the screen part. Seriously. After trying for several hours, my nieces {whom I kept calling my minions all day. ha} and I got in the car and went AGAIN to the art supply store where our friend Nathan, Santa Rosa’s screen printing guru, was so happy to see us {for the fourth time in two days} and gave us some tips.

Thankfully they worked because after that we had success!! WHOO HOO!!! We got a good system going and knocked out all the rest of the tees.

The bummer was that it was 6 PM and I promised you all some items at 5 PM. Ugh. So sorry about that. I really had no idea my day would turn out like this. It really was SUCH a frustrating day, but I am happy to say that everything is done and ready to the list. The only thing is I don’t have much of my very favorite and darling little logo with the owls.

The screen wasn’t quite the right size, so I’m going to have to redo it. The minons and I will work on that this weekend and get something out next week with that one. But I think you will love the other logo. Every time we inked one of the shirts, the girls would squeal in excitement. They picked out all the color combos, and I think you will love them.

So tomorrow, at noon, I hope to have them all up and listed. Thank you, thank you for your patience!

Oh, want to know one one amazing thing about the day? This….

my husband made me dinner!!! Is that not awesome?? I told him this earlier, and said it’s not true, but I don’t think in the 11 years we have been together he has ever made me dinner{he has taken me out for dinner though, ha!}. He’s just not a cook…. BUT, he got a BBQ for father’s day and he is so excited about it. He is even cooking tomorrow too. :)

So we’ll see you all tomorrow. Thanks for your patience everyone. Big hugs!! xoxo

Late Nighters

The last couple weeks have been full of very late nighters. Like 1 and 2 AMers. It’s so not fun.

I find I am so much more crankier with my kids when I up late. Do you find this? I feel so guilty about it afterwards. Like tonight, both kids went to bed crying. Granted, they deserved the punishments they received {it seems my discipline system is waaaayyy lax when I am tired. ugh}…but it makes you feel like poop when the crying goes on…and on….and on….

well, you get the point. I have some crazy kids. Really, I do. Usually people don’t believe me when I say that, but they spend one whole day with me and they walk away shaking their heads. Take for example my girl….

She wanted to sit on my lap tonight during dinner {which, by the way was pizza. I’m not proud of that fact, but I’ve been working so late that I didn’t have a chance to plan any dinners this week. ugh.}….and she looked so cute sitting with me, so I turned the camera on us.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I would snap the camera she would open her mouth like that and show her food. Every time. HUH?!? And then of course my boy feels it’s his turn to be crazy, jump in and make it worse.

Told you, crazy.

Sorry if you follow me on Instagram {eystree} or twitter, you already saw these pictures. ha.

Tonight I am crunching numbers.

It’s not fun. The numbers side of business is my least favorite part…as it always seems to depress me. Trying to keep my chin up tonight. The cold hard facts are sometimes hard to look straight in the face. Spending some time asking the Lord how to make this all work, if He even still wants it. Sometimes you just got to shake your head, wipe your hands clean and give it all up to Him, you know? Doing that tonight.

I am thankful for this blog. It has always been a place of refuge and a place that is full of the real me. I like that. I’m not sure how many people read along, but to those of you who follow along, thank you. I’m not sure why you do, to be honest…with kids like mine and all. ha.

Tomorrow, I will do my best to pull myself out of the cranky mode at night and love the fact that my kids are crazy. It’s pretty cool, actually. My kids are awesome. Despite their insane behavior, I wouldn’t trade them for the world. ha. :) xoxo

Save Evy’s Tree: Where Are We At?

If I have been asked one question over and over throughout the last couple weeks it’s: “So how are we doing? How many have we sold?”. In fact, I was at a wedding last week and several people that I have never met came up and ask me that exact question. It sincerely warms my heart to know that people care and have been so willing to help save Evy’s Tree.

First, I have to shout from the rooftops:

Seriously!! Over the last couple months, I have wondered if Evy’s Tree has hit the proverbial “roof” so to speak and that there was no more interest in our product. But you have proved me wrong. I have sold in the last two weeks more items than I normally sell in two months during the summer. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! As I go through all the orders and prep them for shipment, I am in awe of how many of you believe in us. There really are no proper words to thank you. I wish I could open my home to you have a giant big celebratory party JUST FOR YOU, but obviously that won’t work with the logistics of it all, so please know I will be forever thankful and I am standing up and applauding YOU.

So where are we at? Well, unfortunately I can’t really give you a number of hoodies sold and needing to be sold. In the beginning I had in my mind that the 1500 hoodies I had sitting on my shelves {both finished and raw} would equal a certain amount of money and that amount hovered around the amount I needed to manufacture. However, what I did not anticipate was how many of you would purchase small things in the shop {such as tee shirts and scrap boxes} that I did not originally count in the 1500 pieces, all which greatly added up to the amount we need to reach our goal. Or how many of you would insist on paying full price for an item just to help us get a there a little sooner {have I said you guys are awesome?!?}. Also, our preorder items have shot through the roof, which means we make more on the plain raw {or unfinished} hoodies as a preorder than by itself, all which catapults me to reaching my goal so much sooner. SO…very early on I realized I needed to chuck the whole “this is how many hoodies I have left” and focus on the “X” dollar amount I need to manufacture. With that being said, I will keep you updated on our progress over the next two weeks with percentages. {Mathematical friends are jumping for joy, I’m sure, ha}

I am so proud to announce that we are 50% of the way to reach our manufacturing dream!! WOW!!!

There are no words to express my shock and excitement. Sincerely, I really did not expect this AT ALL!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH DEAR FRIENDS!! I wish I could reach through the screen and hug you all. I love you guys so much.

So what now? Well, we have two weeks left and obviously we aren’t there yet. Can you still help? We are still taking preorders in the shop for items made in times past, but I am considering closing that option after one more week and focus on getting rid of the all ready made items on our shelves. And scrap boxes are still available. In fact, I am thinking about offering some jersey scrap boxes as well, so keep your eyes open for those. :)

Also, tomorrow {Wednesday} we will have Evy’s Tree screen printed items available.

This is one of the two logos that will be available, hand drawn by the amazingly talented Stephanie Corfee. We are hand screen printing them onto leftover items in shop, so they will be unique and limited. They will also be a cheaper price point than the other items in the shop…so if you haven’t been able to afford something earlier, this may be your time. Every penny goes towards our end goal. I will do a blog on the screen printed items tomorrow and include more info.

Lastly, if we reach our goal for manufacturing, I will need to clear out my shelves to make room for the thousands of pieces that will fill them. So please stay tuned, as my original plan was to sell at cost all the plain {or what we call “raw”} American Apparel hoodies that sit on my shelves. If there is anything left after preorders, I will likely still do that next week.

In closing, If you have a chance, could you share about Evy’s Tree again with your friends? Many of you have big blog, twitter and facebook followings….do you think you tell them about this? Even just calling your best friends and asking them if they have ordered yet helps. :)

Again, thank you and I love you all. I appreciate your love, prayers and support.

Oh PS…a couple hundred items are shipping today and throughout the week. You should receive a shipping notification email to the paypal email that you bought the item with, but please be sure to give the email 24 hrs to land in your inbox, as sometimes they do take a bit to show up. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us: and we’ll look into your item. Thank you!!

The Boys Go To Jr. Camp and Evy Goes to Grandma’s

Good morning everyone!

First I want to tell you about my precious boys. If you follow Brandon on Instagram {brandonmiraflor} you may have already seen this one:

Dear Lord I love these boys. They both are so hysterical. If you have met my husband, then you would know that he {literally} looks and acts like he is 17. He is such a blast to be around. Lucky for Jake, he has inherited his Daddy’s fun spirit. They keep my life happy and I promise, if they weren’t in my life, I would smile a whole lot less. They just seem to see the comical side of life. I love it.

Well, yesterday Jake and Brandon headed out to a Jr Youth Camp on the coast. Brandon was speaking during the day and he figured since the start age was 8 {and Jake pretty much looks like an 8 year old}, that he should take him. We thought he would love it. He was so excited to be with his Daddy.

According to Brandon he is having the time of his life. He even jumped off the diving board into the deep end {he is terrified of the deep end, ha}. And last night they saw these beautiful bucks. We have lots of deer around here, but it is rare to see so many bucks in one place. Glad they got to see it!

I am going to go up there tonight and see how they are all doing. I’m excited to be with my man for a bit. I miss him so much and the summer of traveling isn’t even over yet! oh boy.

And my girl.

Last week Grandma asked if she could come and get Evy for a couple days. I have to admit I was a bit nervous. I haven’t really let her go anywhere overnight like that before. But the BEST place to start with that is with Grandma, yes? So she is off on her first big adventure in another town without me. She was so excited…she didn’t care that she was leaving me ONE BIT. She has been talking about it for days and this morning when she woke up her first words were: “I get dressed and go to Grandma’s house?”. So she is in Heaven. Bless her little heart. I love that girl so much.

So I am baby-less for at least a day. Kinda weird. Anyone else feel weird about stuff like that? ha.

Where You Can Find Me….

Since I blew the whistle about the lack of communication with my customers with the advent of the new FB timeline, I thought it might be helpful if I told you where you can get a better “finger on the pulse” as my husband would say. The Evy’s Tree Pulse. :)

I try to use twitter more often than FB nowadays. I love how everything I post shows up in your feed instead of just a few items. The fun thing about twitter is usually it moves pretty quickly, so frequent posting isn’t {as} annoying as FB. Are you on twitter? Follow me HERE.

If you are reading this then you obviously know where our blog is. But do you follow it?  You can do this two ways: through a blog reader and through email notifications. You can find out how to sign up for both HERE. I use Google Reader to catch up on all my blog reading, and I love it! I have the google app on my phone…and the app is available for any smart phone. It looks like this:

Once you click on the app, it gives you a menu. You want to click on reader and wahlah! All your blogs pop up!

If you don’t have a Google Reader, I’m sure whatever blog reader you use also has an app. Again, if you want to learn how to subscribe to our blog or get email notifications when we post a new blog, click HERE.

Email blasts are so helpful for our business. We try to send them out once every week or two and let you know of the coming and goings of Evy’s Tree. We also send out special discount code to our email follower through our email blasts. To subscribe, you want to enter your name and email address in the spaces provided at the upper right hand corner of our blog:

I’m kinda addicted to it…you? Seriously, it’s so much fun to “see” people’s lives instead of reading about them. Want to know more about my world? Well, Instagram will show you. I show you the good, the bad and the ugly.

I have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest. I love it for all the wonderful ideas I can find when I am in need of some creativity. Like when we were remodeling our kitchen…it was beyond helpful! But I hate to just hang out and browse. After a while I want to redecorate my entire house {and I just decorated most of it, ha}, or start thinking I need to dress cuter {yeah, that one is probably true, but it’s no fun to have it pointed out by a social media}, or break my diet because I see all these AMAZING recipes {can we say Reese’s smores?!?}. With that said…I LOVE how I am able to pin Evy’s Tree sales, new items, etc and see what is popular and what isn’t {remember the coconut cake? THAT was popular, ha!} and I love how I get to see what you like and don’t like. And it really is fun, if you relax and don’t become a stress case like me. :)

You can find me HERE.

Probably the easiest way to get ahold of me {besides maybe sending me a tweet on twitter :)}, would be email. I have a confession:

I am horrible with Facebook email.

More than likely, if you send me an email on FB, I won’t see if for a very long time. I am trying to get better, but for some reason, I just seem to miss them! The best way to email me is through my email:

I do try to respond as quickly as possible, but I warn you, if it’s crazy busy over here, it might take me a couple days, especially if it isn’t urgent. I still have a hand full of emails I need to respond to from last week! ugh. Thanks for your patience there!!

Well, I hope that helps you know where to find me! Love you all! xoxo
